The Journey

My soul’s forever restless,
My thoughts roll endlessly,
I must embark upon a journey,
For self-discovery.

Climbing the highest mountains,
Swimming the deepest seas,
Desperate to find the answer,
To just who I might be?

I sought out the enlightenment,
Of the wisest of the wise.
I delved deep into the darkness,
Who knows where the secret lies?

Then one day I met a blind man,
Who sat beneath an oak tree,
I poured out my heart to him,
About my quest to find me.

The old man, he laughed softly,
Leaned back and with a sigh,
He asked me a simple question,
In a word, he asked “Why?”

For a moment I was speechless,
It was a question so profound,
So simple it was almost silly,
Yet its reasoning was quite sound.

I struggled to find an answer,
And was finally able to reply,
“I have to discover my purpose,
Find my wings so that I can fly.”

The blind man thought for a moment,
As he absently scratched his chin,
He said, “The answer lies in the Reflection,
What you seek you will find therein.”

I stumbled through life long after,
Oblivious to the world outside,
Lost in the maze of my thoughts,
Deeper within I began to slide.

Then one day I found a small pond,
Whose surface was smooth as glass,
I knelt to drink from its waters,
And run my fingers through the grass.

As I drank I saw my reflection,
And the blind man’s words became clear,
That which I had searched so long for,
Had always been very near.

The truth about my identity,
The key to who I might be,
I had always had the answer,
And now that I know, I am free!

I spread my wings and I flew skyward,
My heart nearly bursting with glee.
I learned life is whatever you make of it,
And now I’m beginning a new Journey!
